A little leaven works through the whole dough. If Paul preaches about circumcision, the offense of Paul's preaching that presented Christ as God's solution for the sin problem would have ceased. Faith in Christ gives us liberty but we should not use it as an opportunity for the flesh but rather through love serve one another. All the ceremonial laws of Moses centers on the moral mandate of this verse "You shall love your neighbour as yourself". And all the relational problems in church in spite of the Galatian believers' efforts to keep the law point out how wrong they have been in their theology.
1) A little of the false teachings of the Judaisers works through the whole congregation.
2) If you emphasise the law above Christ, Christ as God's solution for the sin problem would have ceased.
3) We should not take pleasure in impure desires. It is easy to interpret the gospel as permission to violate the law. Christian freedom means that the Spirit cleanses us from the sinful desires that hold us captive.
4) We are keeping the civil law in a different way today. "Love your neighbour as yourself" is part of the moral law and thus summarise the civil law well.
False teachings can easily spread through the church like wildfire. Even false accusations or gossip against brethren. I should be careful and abide in God's truth that I may be sure of what I believe in as well as not to jump into conclusions but let the Biblical principles guide my life.
Christ is above the law, Christ is the fulfillment of the law. If in an effort to ask others to keep the law, I uphold the law as the center, Christ has been obscured. I should uplift Christ in every law and let others choose for themselves.
Freedom in Christ is not freedom of the law but freedom from sinful desires. We would do well to remember that. Our life has become easier so to speak but has it made us softer Christians. I pray that we will continue to be like Jesus just like the song "I would be like Jesus".
Love my neighbour as myself. That will go a long way anywhere. At home, church, school, work, anywhere. For friends, family, strangers. This principle would ensure a loving church indeed!
